Judith Mondello
Vice President, Legal Affairs, General Counsel & Corporate Compliance Officer, Genesis Health System 
Areas of Responsibility: Manages all legal affairs for the health system and its affiliates. Provides legal counsel and advice to: the board on governance and nonprofit tax exemption regulations; executives and managers on litigation; medical affairs; physician arrangements; contracts; property management; employment law; information technology; business opportunities and collaborations with external entities. Oversees the development and management of the health system's Compliance Program and compliance with federal rules and regulations applicable to hospitals, nursing homes, hospice and physician practices.
Bio: During the course of her professional career, Ms. Mondello has focused on several key health care areas. She is widely regarded as an expert on HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Privacy and Security regulations and has written extensively on this complex topic. Before joining Genesis in January 2007, Ms. Mondello was a member of the Health Care & Biotech Pharma Life Science Practice Group of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, LLP, one of the top law firms in the country and one of the largest in the world, where in addition to leading the health care privacy and security practice she provided advice to hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, businesses, and private individuals on health care regulations, clinical research and HIPAA. Ms. Mondello was also a member of the Electronic Discovery Practice Group at Mayer, Brown and advised clients on the requirements for the preservation, identification, review and production of electronic information.
Prior to joining Mayer, Brown, Ms. Mondello was supervisor of the Medical Litigation Division of the Cook County State's Attorney Office where she was responsible for the defense of all medical malpractice claims and lawsuits brought against Cook County Hospitals and clinics, as well as physicians and nurses associated with the case or claim.
Ms. Mondello is a graduate of Kent College of Law in Chicago and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ms. Mondello is a member of the Bar of Illinois, Iowa and Indiana and has been admitted to the Federal Trial Bar. Her memberships include the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyer's Association, Association of Corporate Counsel, Illinois and Iowa State Bar Associations, Iowa Society of Healthcare Attorneys and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys. Ms. Mondello is a Board Member of the Red Cross of the Quad Cities and the Bettendorf Library Foundation Board.
