Peter Metcalf, M.D.
Vice President, Medical Staff Affairs, Genesis Medical Center, Silvis Campus
Area of Responsibility: Liaison between Genesis Medical Center, Silvis medical staff, which includes more than 300 active, provisional and courtesy doctors and associate professionals, and the administrative team. Ensures that Genesis standards for medical practice are maintained through the ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support quality care, patient safety, clinical quality improvement, medical staff development and physician engagement.
Bio: Dr. Metcalf, born in London, England, practiced medicine in Canada for 20 years before moving to the Quad Cities. He is a board-certified pediatrician who has been active on the Silvis medical staff since 1994 and has been seeing patients at Genesis Health Group's (GHG) Silvis Pediatric Clinic since 2004. Dr. Metcalf served as President of the GMC, Silvis Medical Staff from 2008 to 2011 and held other Medical Staff executive positions prior to that. He was the Chief of Pediatric Services from 1996-2003; has been a Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor since 1994; is the Co-director of Pediatric Advance Life Support at the hospital (since 1999); and has served on numerous hospital and GHG committees.
In addition to his executive duties and GHG practice, Dr. Metcalf treats children at Rock Island County’s School Health LINK, where he serves as Medical Director. The LINK is a comprehensive school-linked health clinic providing preventive and acute medical care, referrals and health education in the schools as needed. Dr. Metcalf holds a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy from the University of Bristol in Bristol, England, and also earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from there. His post-graduate medical training was done at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, where he was a Medical/Surgical House Officer and at Abergavenny Hospital, Abergavenny, Wales, where we was a Senior House Officer in Pediatrics. He completed a Pediatric Residency at University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, serving as Chief Resident.
