Paul Bollinger

Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel, Genesis Health System

Area of Responsibility: Provides advice and counsel on a variety of legal matters, directs the organization’s Legal Services Department, coordinates and manages the use of outside legal counsel when appropriate and oversees the Risk Department. 

Bio:  Bollinger comes to Genesis from Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Health System, Edinburg, Texas, the largest physician-owned integrated health system in the country. There, he served as Acting General Counsel/Deputy General Counsel. His professional experience includes work in a number of health-related areas including litigation, securities, contracts, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, risk management, insurance and corporate governance. His background also includes work in the areas of legislative advocacy and public policy. 

Prior to his position at Doctors Hospital, Bollinger served as General Counsel for Delisi Communications, an Austin, Texas, full-service government relations and strategic consulting business focusing on legislation, policy and regulation. He also spent two years as General Counsel and Chief of Staff for Texas State Representative Jim Pitts, who was Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. He began his legal career as a law clerk for former Texas federal judge Harry Hudspeth, and moved on to Associate Attorney positions at two Austin, Texas, law firms, including Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., one of the nation’s leading Labor and Employment firms. Prior to embarking on a career in law, Bollinger was a television reporter in Kentucky.

Bollinger earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center, Houston, Texas, where he graduated magna cum laude. He holds a Master of Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.

Bollinger and his wife, Ashley, are parents of a four-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. He enjoys the outdoors, including mountain biking and golf, travel, and is a former rugby player.
