Flo (Florence) Spyrow
Senior Vice President, Genesis Health System
Areas of Responsibility: Spyrow directs the day-to-day operations of the health system's second-largest hospital, GMC Illini Campus, with 150 beds, two senior living options and more than 650 employees. Spyrow also leads the organization's growing role in the provision of critical access hospital services throughout the region. That includes oversight of Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, as well as the Genesis Health System-managed Mercer County Hospital in Aledo, Ill., and Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
In addition, she oversees all Genesis outpatient services, including: the portfolio of businesses under Genesis at Home and Genesis at Work; outpatient physical therapy, dialysis, the Center for Breast Health, the Center for Bariatric Surgery, the Wound/Ostomy Clinic, the Pain Management Center and the Bettendorf Imaging Center. Spyrow also manages Genesis joint venture operations, including two freestanding surgery centers and a center for digestive procedures.
Bio: Spyrow began her career in health care as a nurse, studied law and then pursued hospital operations, giving her a unique combination of clinical, legal and administrative expertise. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from San Jose State University and a Master's of Science in Nursing degree from Oregon Health Sciences University. Her health administration training includes a Master's degree in Health Administration from Portland State University and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.
Spyrow, who joined Genesis in December 2008, has more than 25 years of health care experience, much of it in a number of leadership positions within Trinity Regional Health System, including Vice President of Hospital Operations; acting Vice President of Medical Affairs; Corporate Legal Counsel; and Director of Women's and Children's Services, among others.
Spyrow has been an active community volunteer and served on the boards of the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce and the YWCA. She has one son, Andy.
