Bariatric Surgery Versus Conventional Medical Therapy in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes


The purpose of this retrospective study is to compare two treatments, standard medical management and bariatric surgery, in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity.  

Research Question

In patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity over the age of eighteen, and residing in a rural area, does bariatric surgery achieve a higher rate of diabetes remission rate in one year and at five years post operatively as compared to those who receive medical management of diabetes?
