Nursing Fatique Study

Keeping Patients Safe: Identifying Fatigue Predictors and the Moderating Effect of Intershift Recovery on Patient Safety Outcomes

Objective

The purpose of this study is two-fold: 1) to identify personal and work environment predictors of fatigue and intershift recovery measures used by nurses, and 2) to test the intervening effect of intershift recovery on patient safety outcomes.

Specific aims:

  1. identify personal and work environment predictors of nurse fatigue
  2. identify intershift recovery measures most frequently used by nurses
  3. assess fatigue pattern during shift work
  4. examine the intervening effect of intershift recovery on patient safety outcomes
