Manager, Silvis BirthCenter and Pediatric Department

Tell us a little bit about you. What do you enjoy doing during your free time? What are your hobbies?

I enjoy spending time and having adventures with my family and my three teenagers, going on bike rides along the river's beautiful bike path, hiking, reading books for pleasure now that I have completed my Masters Degree, attending concerts and live music events, and taking my dogs for walks during the warmer months.

How long have you worked at the BirthCenter?

About a year

What is your job/role at the BirthCenter?

I am the Manager of the Silvis Birth Center and Pediatric Department.

Why do you like working at the BirthCenter? What makes you the most proud?

I love working at the Silvis Birth Center because of my amazing coworkers! All of my staff are extremely dedicated to our patients and go above and beyond on a daily basis to provide quality and compassionate care. I am most proud of my department when patients and families share with me the remarkable care they received here. Genesis Medical Center, Silvis has a small town family feel with highly trained nurses that provide superior care to all of our patients.

Why did you decide to work at the BirthCenter?

I started my nursing career sixteen years ago at the Davenport BirthCenter after I had worked as a CNA/Unit Assistant while I finished up my Associate Degree of Nursing. I worked for approximately five years taking care of postpartum and labor patients. I decided I wanted to broaden my nursing skills and made the move to an ER/Trauma Center for almost ten years. I learned an enormous amount about myself and grew personally and professionally in a charge nurse role.

I continued my educational journey and completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and most recently graduated with my Masters of Science in Nursing Degree. I have always aspired to advance my career and move into a management position. I interviewed for several leadership positions and none of them felt like the right opportunity for me. That was until I applied for the Manager of OB in Silvis. This was the job I had been waiting for! It felt like coming home and I can honestly say I have a job I love and work among some of the most amazing nurses I have encountered thus far in my nursing career.

Have you and a partner ever delivered at the BirthCenter? If so, tell us what you liked about the experience.

I did not deliver at Genesis Silvis, but did have all three of my children at the Davenport BirthCenter. I now get the pleasure and opportunity to be back working along side nurses I once worked with. Including those who were mentors to me when I was a new nurse, my labor nurses for my own deliveries, my clinical instructor while I was in the nursing program, and acquaintances who have encouraged and helped make my transition into my new role as a manager seamless.

Any stories/comments/examples of compassion you wish to share that will assure future parents that their needs will be met?

The nurses at Silvis Birth Center are such amazing individuals and they strive to care for our patients like they would of their own family. No one single story stands out because each and every one of my staff provides a little magic to the care they provide everyday!
