Labor & delivery, postpartum RN
"It's very fulfilling to have a patient rely on you to get them through such a difficult/painful time and be there to share in the joyous outcome."
Tell us a little bit about you. What do you enjoy doing during your free time? What are your hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and four children and I spend quite a bit of time going to their sporting events. I also enjoy reading and watching information related to interior design and organization.
How long have you worked at the Silvis BirthCenter?
I've worked at the Silvis BirthCenter for 21 years!
What is your job/role at the BirthCenter?
I am a labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum RN as well as caring for newborns in the level 2 nursery.
Why do you like working at the BirthCenter? What makes you the most proud?
I enjoy being part of welcoming a new baby to a family. It's very fulfilling to have a patient rely on you to get them through such a difficult/painful time and be there to share in the joyous outcome. It's very rewarding to be there to see the patient through the whole process of labor and delivery, telling the patient they can do it and see how proud and happy they are as they hold their new infant.
Why did you decide to work at the BirthCenter?
I knew when I finished nursing school, I wanted to be a labor/delivery nurse at the Silvis campus because of the different tasks that are performed. Silvis is an LDRP and, as a nurse, an RN doesn't just work in labor/delivery or just care for couplets, or just stay in the NICU. The RN many times is able to care for the patient through the labor and delivery and then care for them the next days until discharge.
Have you and a partner ever delivered at the BirthCenter? If so, tell us what you liked about the experience.
My husband and I delivered our four children at the Silvis campus. All the nurses who cared for me were very caring and it was obvious they love their job. (Even before I started working here and the nurses did not know me, I still received compassionate care). It was also wonderful to have a nurse who is also a co-worker, because of the care given, knowing your friend wants the best experience for you.
