Lymphedema Management Program

Women who have been treated for breast cancer may be at risk for lymphedema, or arm swelling on the affected side. The lymphatic system of lymph nodes and lymph vessels carry lymph fluid, which also contains white blood cells that help fight infection. During surgery for breast cancer, there are generally multiple lymph nodes removed to determine if the cancer has spread. Because of the removal of these lymph nodes, and some of the lymph vessels, changes in the way the lymph fluid flows in your arm occur. If the remaining lymph vessels cannot remove enough of the excess fluid in the breast and underarm area, it builds up and causes swelling.

  • Help you to adapt your lifestyle to prevent additional problems.
  • Reduce the symptoms by decreasing the size of the arm and improving skin condition.
  • Improve your ability to perform activities of daily living.
  • Achieve your maximum functional capacity.

Treatment methods:

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage
  • Compression Bandaging
  • Vasopneumatic Pumping
  • Education and skin care
  • Exercise
