Promoting performance excellence through psychological skills training

There are three major disciplines that lead to successful performance in a sport. The Performance Triad consists of:

  • Mental training
  • Physical training
  • Proper nutrition

Many athletes are aware that they must be in peak physical condition to perform at high level, which motivates them to attend practice, get stronger in the weight room, and eat a healthy diet.

Strengthening psychological skills

The mental side of sport is often forgotten and can become a barrier to achieving sport-related dreams and goals. A Sport Psychology Coach can help you improve your mental game through the development of the following psychological skills:

  • Confidence
  • Focus
  • Motivation
  • Stress management
  • Relaxation
  • Imagery/Visualization
  • Mental toughness
  • Resilience
  • Grit
  • Emotional control
  • Goal setting
  • Thought management
  • Arousal management
  • Overcoming the fear of failure
  • Getting “in the zone”

The skills listed above have been shown to encourage peak performance in sport, school, and personal life. Additionally, college coaches look for these qualities when recruiting.

How it works

Developing these skills is a collaboration. You are the expert on yourself and your experience in sport, where a Sport Psychology Coach is the expert in psychological skills training. Together, you will re-define your performance goals, set a reasonable plan for achieving them, and develop skills that encourage performance excellence.
