Intended Audience: Nurses, monitor technicians and healthcare providers desiring to learn basic EKG rhythm interpretation without previous experience.
Purpose: This course is designed to educate individuals to perform measurements and interpret basic cardiac dysrhythmias in adults.
Learner Outcomes:
- Perform accurate interval measurements and waveform identification.
- Interpret single lead monitor strips with accuracy.
- Identify normal and abnormal rhythms.
- Assess frequency and duration of the dysrhythmia
- Identify essential treatment interventions for life-threatening dysrhythmias.
- Identify electronic paced rhythms and malfunctions
Course is split into 5 sessions and the topics covered are as follows:
- Normal electrical conduction, lead placement, essential measurements, wave form identification, sinus family rhythm parameters
- Atrial tissue rhythms and ectopics
- Junctional and ventricular rhythms, normal/abnormal
- Atrioventricular heart blocks and electronic paced rhythms
- Differentiation of all basic rhythms and competency requirements.
ALL class sessions will be conducted on the Davenport EAST Campus.
To be eligible for continuing education credits (Nursing and Respiratory Therapists) of 15 contact hours, the participant MUST:
- Attend each of the five live classroom sessions
- Complete the post learning assessment with 80% accuracy prior to the established date/time deadline for the class
All classes are taught by Genesis Medical Center personnel.

If registration is cancelled one week prior to the program sessions start date, the registration fee will be refunded. There are no refunds issued after the start of the session for which the person is registered.
