Cognition in brain injuries and how it affects rehabilitation

Registration is closed.

General participants may register at with a credit card.  Use the "register as a guest' link under the Register button for the class.

Employee Healthstream Registrations will be charged to your home cost center with Manager approval.

Employee self-pay need to register at or mail completed registration form with check attached.

Registration fee includes meals, breaks, and handout materials.


If registration is canceled one week (7 calendar days) prior to the program, the registration fee minus a $20 administration fee will be refunded. No refunds will be issued after the program starts.

Intended Audience

Physicians, Nurses, PT, PTA, OT, COTA, Recreation Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, SLP, and other interested healthcare professionals


To provide healthcare professionals information on evidence based practices for dealing with patients following brain injury (BI).


  1. Describe normal aging changes
  2. Describe signs and symptoms of dementia
  3. Describe cognitive impairments following neurological insult
  4. Apply objective assessment techniques to establish baseline performance
  5. Provide interventions that will assist in enhancing performance and participation in therapies

10:00 am Neurological Insult Deficit vs Dementia (tease out existing/premorbid cognitive deficits)

11:45 am Lunch

12:30 pm  Executive Function's Impact on Gait, Mobility, etc

2:15 pm   Break

2:30 pm   Advances in Cognitive Interventions

4:00 pm   Summary, Evaluation & Adjournment

CE Credit may be up to 8 hours for some disciplines


Free parking is available in the employee parking lot North of the Heart Institute behind to the parking ramp.


Continuing Education Credits

Nursing:  8.0 Contact hours awarded by Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #59, GMC, Davenport, Iowa. Certificate may be used for IL license renewal.

Illinois Social Work:  6.6 hours of credit provided by Black Hawk College for Addn $10 fee.

Iowa SW, PT, PTA, OT, COTA, TR, SLP, Psychology eligible for up to 8.0 hours of credit.

Illinois PT, PTA, OT, COTA will be provided 8.0 hours of credit.

IL SLP will be provided 6.6 hours of credit by UnityPoint/Trinity.
