I feel very privileged to work with patients and families at the end of life. Like birth, death is a “tender” time that is full of emotion. But, unlike birth, most of us do not spend time preparing for death. The Genesis Hospice team works with all aspects that affect end of life.
I am able to use my knowledge of the disease process and medications to provide gentle guidance and explain how the body has changed and that healing is no longer an option. As a team, we all work to recognize the issues affecting the patient and the family that interfere with acceptance of the dying process. All those who have experienced birth will experience death. Hospice provides the opportunity to calm fears, reduce pain, provide closure, and move to acceptance of this natural process.
