State of the Art Services
State of the art-facilities and technology allow specialists at Genesis to better care for their patients. A new state-of-the-art telemetry system provides centralized, continuous cardiac monitoring for patients at Davenport, Illini, and DeWitt campuses. Such a technological advancement reflects Genesis' distinction as one of the nation's "100 Most Wired" health systems. The Davenport and Illini campuses also have instituted a heart attack alert response system to enable the rapid unblocking of arteries for patients in the midst of a heart attack.
Since 2000, Genesis has invested more then $50 million in technology and facilities to advance cardiac services. At the East Rusholme Street campus,it began with construction of a new Genesis Heart Institute building; progressed to the second floor with eight catheterization labs, two additional surgical suites, a new intensive care unit and then ended in 2006 with a newly renovated fourth floor that is devoted to cardiac care, with expanded nursing stations, updated technology and private rooms.
Nationally Recognized Quality
Genesis has received national recognition for providing high quality patient care and is the only provider in the region to earn the following acknowledgements.
- Thomson Reuters has named Genesis as one of the Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the country.
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield recognizes Genesis as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care.
- Genesis earned UnitedHealthcare's Center of Excellence for Cardiac Care.
Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, also measures quite favorably against nationally recognized benchmarks for cardiac care. Heart attack response times rank among the best in the nation, and heart bypass surgery outcomes exceed the national average.
Genesis Medical Center, Illini campus, upgraded and renovated its $1.2 million Cardiac Catheterization lab and in 2002 became the first hospital in the area to perform emergency interventional catheterizations without an open-heart surgical program. Four years later, it advanced to a new level of care and now offers elective angioplasty in cases of low-to-moderate risk.
At Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, a partnership with physicians from Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C., allows patients to see their cardiologist much closer to home. The hospital also provides a wide variety of cardiac testing, including echocardiograms, stress testing and holter monitoring.
