Richard Sadler, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Richard Sadler received his BS degree from the Virginia Military Institute, then graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1980. Pursuing his lifetime goal of becoming a Thoracic Surgeon, he did his General Surgery training at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center and the University of California Irvine.
A dual post graduate residency combining individual Vascular and Thoracic Surgery residencies was then completed at the University of Iowa. Following this, he joined William Dippel, M.D., in Davenport in 1989. His professional subspecialty interests include Thoracic cancers, diseases of the Thoracic Aorta and Venous Disorders.
In 2004, Dr. Sadler began pursuing his fourth Board Specialty by becoming a Diving Medical Officer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Following that, he did a non residency post graduate training program in Underwater Medicine, and became Board Certified in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine. He is a certified Diving Medical Examiner, and PADI Dive master, and does underwater photography with his lifetime diving buddies and best friends, wife Nancy and Dive master daughter, Charlotte.
Professional organizations include Fellowship in the American College of Surgery, American College of Cardiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Underwater and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
For relaxation, Dr. Sadler has completed 10 cross country ski marathons, competes in winter biathlon, and reads voraciously in order to become better at pushing up the hill of science. He strives to live by the words of Shakespeare's Lord Polonius, "this above all else: To thine own self be true. And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou can'st not then be false to any man."
