Information for Restaurants
The Genesis Heart Instititute is embarking on an initiative to improve the health of the Quad Cities. The Genesis Heart Institute would welcome your participation in the elimination of trans fat from our community.
Consider signing the pledge provided. When you pledge to eliminate trans fat from your establishment we will provide you with a static cling sticker for your entry door. We will also list the name of your location on the Genesis Heart Institute website. Displaying the Genesis Heart Institute trans fat free logo on your door allows patrons to know you care about their health.
Trans fat - like saturated fat - increases the risk of heart disease by raising "bad" (LDL) cholesterol. The Food and Drug Administration and the Genesis Heart Institute recommend that consumers ask about fats (including oils) used by restaurants and that they avoid trans fat.
Any food made with partially hydrogenated oil contains trans fat. While many commercial vegetable oils contrain trans fat, non hydrogenated versions are available. The only way to know for sure if the oil you use contains trans fat is to check the labels and to talk to your suppliers.
To become a member of this healthy initiative, please read, sign and return the pledge to:
