SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program)
The Jackson County Regional Health Center became a sponsor of SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) in May of 2005. SHIIP is a partnership between the Iowa Insurance Division, a local sponsor, and volunteers who act as advocates for the health care of Iowa's Senior population.
The volunteers are SHIIP certified following 5 days of training at the Iowa Insurance Division. They are required to attend at least 3 updates annually to maintain their certification.
The SHIIP volunteers provide information about Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long term care insurance, claims filings and the new prescription drug coverage that will began in January 2006. The volunteers are available to present informational programs about SHIIP and the new prescription drug coverage or do one-on-one counseling to assist Iowa's seniors in other ways. All counseling sessions are confidential.
