Illini Hospital Offers CPR and First Aid TrainingIllini Hospital

Learn How to Save a Life

CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency life-saving procedure used on someone who is not breathing and has no pulse. Thousands of lives are saved each year through the timely use of CPR.

"This life-saving technique is something everyone should know," says Shari Gall, Manager of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Illini Hospital. "CPR is a procedure that must be properly and promptly performed until emergency medical help arrives. Certification is required to be qualified to give CPR."

Illini Hospital, in cooperation with the Illinois Chapter of the American Heart Association, is offering the following life-saving courses during the month of March:

Heartsaver CPR
Monday, March 11 6-10 p.m.
Larson Center Conference Rooms, 855 Hospital Rd., Silvis
$30 Registration Fee
This course teaches participants how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child and infant victims. Students also learn how to recognize the warning signs of a heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children.

Heartsaver FACTS
Thursday, March 28 8am - 3:30 p.m
Larson Center Conference Rooms, 855 Hospital Rd, Silvis
$30 Registration Fee
The Heartsavers FACTS course combines adult CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) with basic level first aid procedures. Students of this course are taught how to perform adult CPR, relieve a foreign-body airway obstruction, use a barrier device during rescue breathing and also how to use an AED and provide first aid for acute injuries and sudden illnesses.

The following professional emergency cardiac care course is also being offered at Illini during March:

BLS Healthcare Provider
Wednesday, March 27 6-10 p.m.
Larson Center Conference Rooms, 855 Hospital Rd, Silvis
$40 Registration Fee
The Healthcare Provider course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages and is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital.
