Genesis Heart Institute Specialist Participates in International Conferences

A local physician will have the honor of presenting research conducted in the Quad Cities to an international audience. Cardiologist Michael C. Giudici, M.D. will present to more than 5,000 physicians during a meeting of the European Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology in June, in Nice, France and to the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology in mid-May in San Diego, CA.

Dr. Giudici specializes in treatment of abnormal heart rhythms and is involved in the research and development of numerous devices and techniques in placement of pacemakers and defibrillators, which improves the rate and way the heart pumps blood.

As chair of the Genesis Heart Institute Research and Education Committee, Dr. Giudici leads a team of more than a dozen heart specialists in conducting clinical trials for drug therapy, electrophysiology and interventional cardiology. More than 15 trials are being conducted on any given date and the Genesis Heart Institute has a research staff of four to assist physicians and patients through the research process. "Patients benefit from active research program such as ours, often receiving treatment that improves the quality of their lives much sooner than treatment options available elsewhere," says Dr. Giudici.

In France at the 13th International Cardiostim - Medical Congress, Dr. Giudici will present five papers based on research he conducted at the Genesis Heart Institute. Two of the research papers were co-authored with cardiologists Kent Van Why, M.D. and/or Blair Foreman, M.D., members of the Genesis Heart Institute and physicians with Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C. Dr. Giudici will also chair a panel presentation on alternatives to right atrial and right ventricular pacing sites.

In San Diego, Dr. Giudici will chair a panel of experts for a clinical tutorial on those same topics. He'll also present the results of two abstracts.
