Illini Hospital Offers Wednesday Evening Yoga Class

Silvis, IL - It has been proven that "yoga" offers a significant variety of health benefits. It increases the efficiency of the heart and slows the respiratory rate, improves fitness, lowers blood pressure, promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and reduces anxiety. It also serves to improve coordination, posture, flexibility, range of motion, concentration, sleep, and digestion. While yoga itself is not a cure for any medical ailment, it can be used as complementary therapy for many ailments including pain associated with cancer treatments.

Illini Hospital is offering community yoga sessions every Wednesday, beginning January 8, from 5-6:15 p.m., in the Classrooms  (ground floor) of the Larson Center (formally the Illini MedCenter), 855 Hospital Road, Silvis.  Classes are $8 per session for general public and $5 per session for Genesis Health System employees.  Walk-ins are welcome. Payment is due on day of class.

Yoga teacher Indira Ghosh leads the classes, focusing on gentle yoga postures and the importance of progressive breathing, and introducing participants to the healing benefits of sound meditation. Participants should bring a mat or blanket and a small pillow. Each will be asked to remove their shoes and should wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.
