Komen Quad Cities Race For The Cure® Launches On-Line Registration

Quad Cities Race for the CureThis year over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and almost 40,000 of our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and aunts will die from this disease. In honor of its 13th year of raising funds to fight this deadly disease, the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® has launched on-line race registration. Registrants may log on to www.qcraceforthecure.org to find race information and register electronically.

The 2002 Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2002, on the John Deere Commons in Moline, Illinois. Presented locally by Genesis Medical Center and KWQC-TV6, the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® features a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk and a 1-mile family walk/run. A new feature of the 5K run/walk is the wheelchair division.

Since its inception in 1990, the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® has grown to more than 9,500 participants, the second largest race in the Quad Cities. During that same time, the local Race has raised more than $2.1 million and provides over 1000 mammography vouchers yearly to eligible women in our service area.

Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® is the major fund-raising project of the Quad Cities Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® will be used locally to provide mammograms and breast prosthesis vouchers for financially needy women, in addition to educational efforts. Twenty-five percent of the net proceeds from Race help fund the Komen Foundation Research Program.

Persons interested in volunteering for the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® or in obtaining a race application by mail should call Genesis On Call at 421-2000, or 1-800-383-2575.
