Helping Teenagers Handle Their GriefRick's House of Hope

Rick's House of Hope Starts T.A.G. Support Group

Davenport, IA - Adolescents who experience traumatic losses such as the death of a family member, friend, pet, or even have parents who are going through a divorce are at risk in several ways. Many of them turn to thoughts of suicide or drug and alcohol abuse because they are unable to work through their emotions and feelings.

Rick's House of Hope, a trauma and grief recovery center for children, has developed a new support group for grieving adolescents.  T.A.G. (Teen Age Grief) is for children ages 13 to 17.  The group will begin meeting on Thursday, January 9.

Sessions will focus on positive ways to work through the grief process.  TAG coordinators will also address such issues as suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, and sexual activity - many of which grieving adolescents find temporary comfort in.  Each meeting will include free time for recreational activities, general support and a light snack.

The teen years can be very traumatic in themselves, but when you put a life-altering event such as death or divorce on top of the many academic, social and physical demands placed on teenagers they can be disastrous.
