Genesis Offers Fibromyalgia Self Help Class

FMS (fibromyalgia syndrome) is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for which the cause is still unknown. Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons--the fibrous tissues in the body. For the most part, routine laboratory testing will not detect FMS. However, upon physical examination, patients will be sensitive to pressure in certain areas of the body called pressure points.

More women than men are afflicted with FMS. Yet, studies reveal that the condition is equally severe in both genders and that it shows up in people of all ages.

Genesis Health System is offering a seven week Fibromyalgia Self Help Class, beginning January 10. The class will be held every Thursday through February 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the Genesis Plaza, 2535 Maplecrest Road, Suite 6, Bettendorf. The cost of the class is $30 and includes a book and handouts. Family and friends may also attend at no cost.
