Coloring Your World Helps Heal Your Soul
Genesis Explores The Effects Music And Art Have On Total Wellness
Davenport, IA - Medical science has proven that different colors have definite and various effects upon our nervous system and that they act quite independently of our eyes or minds. Many believe the colors of the rainbow have a deep significance to us throughout all phases of our life and they have more influence on us then we can possibly imagine. Philosophers say if we use them intelligently, colors can help us by strengthening, soothing and inspiring us.
Genesis Medical Center will begin a seven-week workshop called Art and Music for Relaxation. Exploring the Effects of Music and Art on Body/Mind/Sprit. Each session is specially designed to take the seven colors of the rainbow and connect the participant with the color, meditation, music, movement and pastel painting to increase energy and well-being. "Participants will find the experience relaxing and invigorating at the same time, a perfect combination for stress management," say Pat Christy, Manager of the Genesis Cancer Program and coordinator of the holistic programming at the Cancer Center.
Facilitators for this unique series include Colleen Curry, BME MS and Karen Lobovits, BA. Colleen is a student of the Arts and an award-winning Fiber Artist. Developing the mind, body and Spirit are a part of her daily life. Also an Artist, Karen has had a private practice in Art Therapy and has facilitated Art Therapy workshops for fifteen years. Karen is a Certified Yoga Instructor and Reiki II practitioner.
Sessions will be held every Wednesday, beginning October 8 through November 19, from 6-8 p.m., in the Conference Center at Pavilion II on Genesis Medical Center's West campus, 1401 West Central Park, Davenport. No knowledge of art or music is necessary. Cost is $140 per person and the class size is limited to 8 people.
