Genesis Center For Breast Health Expands Three-Fold

Davenport, IA - Genesis Medical Center will preview the newly expanded $1 million renovation of the Center for Breast Health this week. The center serves more than 6,800 women in the region each year.  As the area's only comprehensive breast health care center, it offers specialized care for women with abnormal mammogram findings.

The center, located in Medical Office Building 1 on Genesis Medical Center's East campus, 1228 E. Rusholme St., Davenport, has grown to 11,000-square feet from its former location on the first floor. Its new home on second floor has been re-designed to house all-new mammography units that meet 2002 Mammography Quality Standards Act guidelines.

The center offers state-of-the-art mammography equipment, a new bone densitometer, a lymphedema program, physicians' offices and a library, private waiting rooms, a breast ultrasound room and a breast biopsy room.

Women receive the latest diagnostic technology and treatment by breast health specialists who work as a team - all in one convenient location. Upon diagnosis, every patient with breast cancer is given an individualized treatment plan, and the education and emotional support she needs to battle her disease.

"With a team of breast health experts in one location - including surgeons and radiologists specializing in breast health -- our patients can benefit from a more accurate diagnosis and a faster pre-treatment process," says Judy McFarlin, director of Genesis Regional Cancer Center. The center is staffed by four radiologists from Radiology Group, P.C., who specialize in interpretation of mammograms. Davenport Surgical Group, P.C., performs clinical exams by surgeons who specialize in breast care.

Teresa Fraker, R.N., says the expansion makes it easier for her to consult with surgeons because their offices are close by. The added space also helps ease the crunch of patients waiting to be seen by a surgeon. "Previously when surgeons saw patients, we only had two rooms," she says. "Now, we have five different rooms."

Center For Breast Health Sunday Open House

The public is invited to an open house for the newly renovated Center for Breast Health. Guests aged 40+ may ask for a voucher to redeem for a free bone density heel scan screen. Special appearance by WKBF radio's Charlie's Music Shop at 12:15.
