Dude, Do I Need To Be There Today?

Strategies for Retaining Your Best Employees - Genesis Workplace Services Holds Seminar

Davenport, IA - Do you have what it takes to keep qualified employees knocking at your door? According to a recent survey, 82% of organizations are having difficulties finding qualified candidates and as the pool of top performers dwindles, organizations across the country are exploring ways to keep the talent they have.

Genesis Workplace Services is offering an educational seminar to Quad City area employers interested in "Employee Retention: Your Best Defense in the War for Talent." This one-day seminar explores effective strategies to retain valuable employees, is Thursday, October 9, from 8:30am -5pm, at the Adler Health Education Center, Lower Level of the Genesis Heart Institute, 1236 E. Rusholme, Davenport.

Generational differences in the workplace will be the focus of keynote speaker, Christine Quinn Trank, Ph.D., University of Iowa Tippie School of Business. Her presentation entitled, Dude, Do I Need To Be There Today? takes a look at the factors that make generation gaps an issue for today's employers. Dr. Trank, an expert in organizational change and behavior, will be exploring how each of the current generational cultures - Traditionals, Boomers, GenXers, and Millenials - was formed and the methods to bridge the generational gap in order to assure high performance and personal growth among employees.

Generation gaps are proving to be a sticking point for employers. A recent study conducted in 31 counties by the Centre for Creative Leadership took a look at the issue and quashed some myths about generational differences. The study exposed the perception that generation X workers change jobs at a much greater rate than their older colleagues. The average number of times people in their 50s changed jobs between the ages of 20 and 25 was 1.6. This compared with an average of two job shifts for those now in their 30s. Another myth exposed by this study found that older people were just as willing to undergo further training and to use computers as the youngest workers.

Other topics covered in this seminar include: "Coaching for Peak Retention," "Selection and Promotion Strategies that Retain Employees," "How to Keep the Good Ones," and "Employee Retention: The Role of an EAP."

Registration for "Employee Retention: Your Best Defense in the War for Talent" is $125 per person and includes lunch. A $25 early-bird discount will be applied to registrations received before September 9. Genesis EAP Client Organizations will also receive a $25 per person discount. A group discount is also available for groups of three or more from one organization registering at the same time.
