Genesis Medical Center Receives Consumer Choice AwardGenesis Medical Center

Davenport, IA - For the second year in a row, the National Research Corporation (NRC) has recognized Genesis Medical Center as one of the nation's top hospitals with the Consumer Choice Award. NRC gives this award to hospitals whose consumers have recognized them for providing quality health care services.

"We are very honored that the Quad Cities has again chosen Genesis Medical Center for this award," says Andrea Coleman, CEO of Genesis Medical Center. "This award exemplifies the quality and compassion our employees, physicians and volunteers provide to our patients and visitors daily. It is their commitment to personalized patient care and leading-edge technology that makes Genesis Medical Center one of the best hospitals in the country."

The 2003 Consumer Choice Award winners were determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings, including satisfaction, quality of care, and community access. This information was collected in the company's annual NRC Healthcare Market Guide® study. Of the 3,000 hospitals named by consumers in the study, only 173 facilities rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Areas, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The 2003 NRC Healthcare Market Guide study surveyed over 140,000 households representing 400,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia. Co-winners are named when scores fall within the statistical margin of error for a given market. "The study has only been conducted twice in the Quad Cities, and Genesis Medical Center has come out on top both times," adds Coleman.

"Consumers play an increasing role in their selection of healthcare facilities and services," said NRC President and CEO Michael Hays. "As more information is made publicly available to consumers, we expect this trend to increase. With the industry's shift to a consumer-driven model, we are pleased to recognize the facilities named as leaders by those they serve. The winners deserve recognition for the emphasis they have placed on providing quality, patient-centered care."

The 2003 Healthcare Market Guide is the nation's largest and most comprehensive study of its kind. No other study used to rate hospitals contains more consumer responses than NRC's study. National Research Corporation has more than two decades of experience in healthcare performance measurement. Winners of the 2003 Consumer Choice Award are published in this week's edition (September 15) of Modern Healthcare.
