Genesis Offers Heart Health Screening at Floreciente Center

Davenport, IA – In a recent heart health survey commissioned by Genesis Health System, 72 percent of African-American respondents 50 years old and older said they did not know their cholesterol levels.

When asked about their family history, 65 percent of Latino-Hispanic respondents in the risk group of 50 and older said they had diabetes in their family backgrounds. Fifty-eight percent of the Latino-Hispanic respondents said they considered themselves to be overweight.

In response to survey results indicating that Quad Cities minority residents often are unaware of the risk factors of heart disease, or unresponsive to those factors, Genesis Health System has scheduled comprehensive metabolic panel and lipid screenings at neighborhood centers in the Quad Cities.

The final screening of the series is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at the Floreciente Center in Moline. The screening will take place from 8-11 a.m.

The Genesis “On The Road’’ bus, equipped for hosting screenings and providing information on health care access and Genesis services, will be available at each screening site.

The screening at the Floreciente Center will be conducted by the laboratory staff of Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus. Screening results will be sent to the home of everyone who is screened.

Genesis nurses will be available at the screenings with heart-related educational information.

The Genesis Health Services Foundation has provided a grant to conduct the screenings. The Floreciente Center has vouchers available for free screenings.
