A Genesis Four-Peat! Consumer Choice Awards: ’02, ’03, ’04, ‘05

Davenport, IA – Genesis Medical Center now shares a distinction in common with Franklin Roosevelt, Lance Armstrong and the New York Yankees.

All have accomplished a goal four times in a row.

Roosevelt won the presidency four straight terms, Armstrong has won the Tour de France seven straight years and the Yankees won five straight World Championships from 1949 to 1953.

For the fourth consecutive year, Quad Cities health care consumers have chosen Genesis Medical Center as their most preferred hospital in the region.

Based on its independent study, National Research Corporation (NRC) has once again recognized Genesis as one of the nation’s top hospitals with the Consumer Choice Award. Genesis has swept the NRC Consumer Choice Awards in the four years the market area has only been included in the study.

The award puts Genesis in the company of premier health care leaders, including the Mayo Clinic, The Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Medical Center, Massachusetts General and Johns Hopkins.

“This award recognizes the commitment and compassion our employees, physicians and volunteers provide to patients and visitors each day,’’ said Leo Bressanelli, President and CEO of Genesis Health System. “There is a choice of health care in the Quad Cities and we are pleased that Genesis is that choice for superior quality.

“Health care consumers in the Quad Cities have made it clear for four years straight that they ‘Never Settle.’’’

The Consumer Choice Award winners were determined by response to a sampling of more than 200,000 households representing 400,000 consumers in the United States. The information was compiled for the NRC Healthcare Market Guide, which is recognized as the nation’s most comprehensive consumer assessment of the health care industry.

Of the 3,000 hospitals named by consumers, only 207 rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Winners are featured in the Sept. 26 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.

“Consumers play an increasing role in selecting their health care facilities and services,’’ said Michael Hays, Chief Executive Officer, National Research Corporation. “As more healthcare quality information is made publicly available, we expect this trend to increase.

“These organizations are selected for the Consumer Choice Awards by the communities they serve. We are pleased to honor these facilities for their leadership in the delivery of quality healthcare.’’

Genesis’ quality is evident in many areas of the region’s health care. Genesis delivers the most babies in the region; leads the nation in heart attack response times; has the busiest inpatient rehab unit in Iowa; and, boasts the highest level trauma center in the Iowa Quad Cities.

Genesis is also the only health system in the region to offer a dedicated Stroke Unit, laparoscopic bariatric surgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery.

The Genesis commitment to information technology and electronic medical records has earned the system the designation of 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems for two years in a row.

Genesis Medical Center and its predecessors have provided compassionate, quality care to all those in need in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas for more than 130 years. Genesis brings together the skills and efforts of more than 600 physicians, 5,000 staff members and 1,000 volunteers.
