Genesis Hospitals Rank Among Best in Several Quality Measurements On New Website

Davenport, IA – Genesis Medical Center hospitals rank among the nation’s top hospitals in several quality measurements, according to the government’s new Hospital Compare Web site.

The web site, www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov, is a consumer friendly site that became available to the public on April 1. The Web site provides measurements about hospital procedures for the care of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Additional measurements will be added in the future.

The Web site is the result of a partnership that involves the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that oversees Medicare, along with hospitals, hospital associations, national accreditors and consumer groups.

Genesis Medical Center, Davenport is among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide in the percentage of pneumonia patients given oxygenation assessment. Genesis Medical Center, Davenport reported that 100 percent of pneumonia patients received oxygenation assessment.

Genesis Medical Center, Davenport reported that 88 percent of pneumonia patients are given pneumococcal vaccinations. The top 10 percent of hospitals achieved 80 percent or better.

Genesis Medical Center, Davenport also reported that 97 percent of heart attack patients are given adult smoking cessation advice and counseling and 98 percent of heart attack patients are given aspirin at arrival. The same percentage (98) of Genesis Medical Center, Davenport heart attack patients are given aspirin at discharge.

“We are pleased with these initial measurements. We are always striving to offer the best quality and best patient safety environment. We would like to be at the top of every measurement and that is what we are working toward,’’ said James Lehman, M.D., vice president of quality, Genesis Medical Center.

Genesis Medical Center, Illini campus in Silvis ranked among the top hospitals in the percentage of heart failure patients receiving discharge instructions. Illini reported 96 percent of such patients do receive instructions. The top 10 percent of reporting hospitals reported that 88 percent of their patients received discharge instructions.

Quality measures for surgical infection prevention will be added for release on the Web site in July.
