AMA Foundation Honors Dr. Janarthanan

Davenport, IA – Maitreyi Janarthanan, M.D., has been named a recipient of the American Medical Foundation’s 2005 Leadership Award. She received the award on March 13 at the annual Excellence in Medicine Awards in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Janarthanan is medical director of Genesis Convenient Care in Moline and is immediate past president of the Rock Island County Medical Society. She was nominated for her commitment to her community and her efforts to enhance patient care and safety at the local and state levels.

In his nomination of Dr. Janarthanan, Rock Island County Medical Society President Michael Cottone, M.D., said, “Dr. Janarthanan has distinguished herself as an excellent leader by serving as president of the Rock Island County Medical Society. Her physician peers, as well as patients in the community, have been the beneficiaries of her boundless energy and enthusiasm.’’

“She (Dr. Janarthanan) advocates tirelessly, educating legislators on important policy issues, including professional liability reform, access-to-care issues, and matters important to improving the quality of health care in our community.’’

Dr. Janarthanan serves on the Illinois State Medical Society’s Drugs and Therapeutics Committee.

She is a graduate of the Thanjavur Medical College in India. She completed her residence at the University of Illinois.
