Genesis Event Will Promote Exercise For Recovering Stroke Patients
Davenport, IA – The Genesis Stroke Prevention and Recovery Center (SPARC) will be hosting two stroke awareness programs on May 14.
Dr. James Rimmer, Ph.D, president of the National Council on People With Disabilities, will be the keynote speaker for the programs at Genesis Wellness Center in Bettendorf (8 a.m.-noon) and at the Moline YMCA (12:30-4 p.m.).
The Genesis Wellness Center is located in the Bettendorf YMCA at 3800 Tanglefoot Road. The Moline YMCA is located at 2040 53rd Street.
The two programs will emphasize the importance of exercise for all people with disabilities, including those who have suffered a stroke.
Alicia Owens, coordinator of the Genesis stroke prevention and recovery center, said the program will provide information on issues related to stroke recovery, but will also be informative for people with any chronic illness. “Promoting health and exercise is important with anyone who has a chronic condition. Exercise is important after stroke, but also for anyone with a spinal cord injury, and for anyone with diabetes or heart disease,’’ Owens said.
The programs will end with tours of the Genesis Wellness Center in the Bettendorf Family Y and the Pulse Program at the Moline YMCA.
There is no charge for the programs. To register, or for further information, contact Genesis On Call at 563-421-2000 or 1-800-383-2575.
