Genesis Cancer Program Approved With Commendation By Commission On Cancer
DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Genesis Cancer Program received six of a possible seven commendations and has received approval with commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
A facility receives a three-year approval with commendation from the Commission on Cancer following the on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor. During the visit, the facility demonstrates compliance with the 32 standards and has the potential to excel and receive commendation for seven standards.
Those standards include cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.
Genesis offers a comprehensive program of cancer treatment and prevention using a collaborative approach. The Genesis Cancer Center offers cancer services from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment from skilled physicians and oncology certified nurses, multiple treatment options and end-of-life care services.
“To receive commendation in six of seven possible areas is phenomenal and is evidence of the excellent collaboration we have that makes our program so successful,’’ said Judy McFarlin, Director, Genesis Cancer Center. “We have a strong team environment that includes the physicians, nurses, therapists, cancer registry,the laboratory and radiology all working together for the benefit of patients.’’
