Genesis Celebrates Cardiac Rehabilitation Milestone

DAVENPORT, Iowa --  Heart disease does not discriminate. It strikes men and women, the rich, the poor, farmers and Chief Executive Officers, fathers and sons.

All walks of life have walked on the treadmills of the Genesis Cardiac Rehabilitation program over the past 20 years to maintain their health following heart problems.

The Genesis Cardiac Rehabilitation program will celebrate the successes and remember patients who have passed this week by recognizing the 20th anniversary of Phase III and IV rehabilitation at Genesis.

There will be a holiday dinner, program and dance for Phase III and Phase IV patients on Thursday, Dec. 7 at Tanglewood Hills Pavillion, 4250 Middle Road, Bettendorf.  The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a program and music provided by a big-band orchestra.

Genesis Medical Center psychologist Janis Smith, PhD., will be the guest speaker. The topic will be “Heart Disease, Holidays and the Blues.’’

The Genesis Cardiac Rehabilitation program offers all four levels of rehabilitation for heart patients.

Phase I rehabilitation begins while a patient is hospitalized. Phase II is for patients in the first few months of post-hospitalization, and Phase III is a maintenance program of classes, exercise and heart monitoring. Phase IV patients exercise with Phase III patients but are not monitored as intensely.

A total of 1,748 people have been involved in the program since its inception.  There are currently 230 active members in the Phase III/IV cardiac rehabilitation program.  Bill Hamilton, Jack McCabe and Vernon Miller have all been part of the Genesis Phase IV program since its inception.

Signup for the event is available at Phase III/IV rehabilitation at the Genesis Wellness Center located in Bettendorf Family YMCA. For more information or to signup, call (563) 421-7129.
