Genesis Physical Therapists Achieve Specialist Certification

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Three Genesis Medical Center physical therapists have achieved National Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist Certification and will be using their advanced skills to benefit patients.

Kathryn Ellsworth, Christine Klemish and Jay Richard have been designated certified orthopaedic clinical specialists by the American Physical Therapy Association.  To receive this certification, a physical therapist is required to pass a national certification examination after working in the field for one year, or completing a minimum of 2,000 hours in the specialty area.

An orthopaedic specialist possesses advanced clinical knowledge, expertise and skill in the treatment and management of individuals with orthopaedic diagnosis, such as back and neck pain, work and sports injuries and following musculoskeletal surgeries (joint replacement, back surgery).  There are currently only 41 Orthopaedic Clinical Specialists in the State of Iowa. 

Kathryn Ellsworth PT, OCS is a graduate of St. Ambrose University with a Master of Physical Therapy degree.  She has worked at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, for three years.  She is the Clinical Supervisor of the Genesis Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic at Valley Fair Shopping Center, Davenport.

Christine Klemish PT, OCS, CSCS is a graduate of St. Ambrose University   with a Master of Physical Therapy degree.  She recently joined Genesis Medical Center after serving four years in United States Army.  She provides therapy services at Genesis Medical Park at Maplecrest, Bettendorf.  Christine is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Jay Richard PT, OCS is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Master of Physical Therapy degree.  He has worked at Genesis Medical Center for 13 years serving both inpatients and outpatients with orthopaedic therapy needs.  He now serves patients at the Genesis Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic at the Valley Fair Shopping Center, Davenport.
