Genesis Risk Specialist Marie Schumacher Wins S.A. Gross Award
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Genesis Risk Management Specialist Marie Schumacher has received the S.A. Gross Risk Management Award from Illinois Risk Management Services.
The award recognizes risk managers at client hospitals for their contribution to the risk management program at their facility. Schumacher was awarded a plaque and Genesis Medical Center, Davenport will receive $1,000 to be used toward patient safety or quality initiatives.
Schumacher submitted two patient safety initiatives implemented at Genesis. A patient safety hotline (SAFE) was established that allows Genesis staff to report errors and “near misses” of errors in patient care. Another was the “Instruction Zone,” which is a monthly educational tool for medication administration safety.
“As the Risk Specialist, the nomination was in my name, but many people within Genesis were deserving for their role in establishing these quality and patient safety initiatives,’’ Schumacher said. “Genesis has established a number of patient safety initiatives in recent years that demonstrate our commitment to patient safety. “
The S.A. Gross Award was established to recognize Gross and honor his philosophy that a good risk management program does more than just minimize losses, but actually enhances quality patient care and safety.
Schumacher is 33-year employee of Genesis Medical Center and its predecessors. She is an RN, has a BA and is a Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager.
