GMC, Davenport Re-Certified As A Level II Regional Trauma Care Facility
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Genesis Medical Center, Davenport has successfully completed the categorization and re-verification process to be recertified as a Regional Trauma Care Facility by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Regional Trauma Care Facilities are centers located primarily in urban areas with a compliment of resources to provide surgical and critical care for trauma patients.
Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport is the only verified Level II Regional Trauma Care Facility in the Iowa Quad Cities.
“This commitment to provide these resources to the Quad-City community demonstrates the ongoing efforts of Genesis to ensure that injured patients here receive the best care possible. The Trauma Program at Genesis has been a model for the State of Iowa since its formal inception more than 10 years ago,” said Joseph L. Lohmuller, M.D. FACS, Trauma Program Medical Director.
The goal of Iowa’s trauma verification system is to match the injured patient’s needs to existing resources so optimal and cost-effective care is achieved. A systems approach to trauma care involves the collaboration of health-care providers across the continuum of care extending from prevention, to acute care, through rehabilitation.
All hospitals, transporting ambulance service programs, and rehabilitation centers are participating in Iowa’s trauma system.
