Genesis To Host Local and Visiting Artists
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- A wide range of accomplished artists will be performing at Genesis Health System facilities through May 2007. The performances are being coordinated through Quad City Arts Visiting Artist Series and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra.
The first performance by Quad City Arts Visiting Artists Four on the Floor was Sept. 16 at Crosstown Square apartments, an independent living community for seniors, located in Silvis, Illinois.
Future Quad City Arts Visiting Artist performances include a one-man drama by actor Tom Dugan in January, violinist Bella Hristova in February, and Chance, a comtemporary cello and vocal duo in April.
In addition, musicians of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra will be entertaining patients, visitors and staff with performances in December, January, February and May.
"Humans have always used music and sound as a healing practice,’’ said Pat Christy, BSN, Operations Manager of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. "Studies of the healing powers of music have shown that music can equalize and slow down brain waves, affect respiration, heartbeat and pulse, reduce muscle tension, increase endorphin levels, regulate stress-related hormones, boost the immune system, stimulate digestion and produce a feeling of well-being.’’
Performers will be visiting several Genesis facilities including the Genesis Medical Center campuses; Illini Restorative Care, a long-term care facility in Silvis; and Westwing Place, a long-term care facility in DeWitt, Iowa.
