Genesis Regional Diabetes Care Center Hosts Guardian Education Event

BETTENDORF, Iowa – If you have diabetes, how would you like to be “Living Between the Lines?”

People with diabetes can find out more about a continuous glucose monitoring system made by Medtronic at an informational event on Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.  The event will be held at The Lodge, located at Interstate 74 and Utica Ridge Road.

By displaying blood sugar or glucose readings 24 hours a day, the Guardian Real-Time system provides significantly more information than with fingerstick testing alone.  Patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can know what their glucose level is and where their level is trending.  As they approach their glucose limits, they are warned in time to take corrective action.

Patients who use the Real-Time system refer to it as “living between the lines.”  The system can be set at individualized targets for high and low parameters.  If their blood sugar levels don’t stay between the lines, the system sounds an alarm.

The Guardian Real-Time System may be ideal for diabetes patients who need added protection from lows and highs; experience hypoglycemia unawareness; desire better control; have gestational diabetes; have diabetes and are pregnant; and have elevated A1C levels.

The Genesis Regional Diabetes Care Center was the first in Iowa to offer the Guardian Real-Time to diabetes patients who don’t use an insulin pump.
