Genesis Health Group Physician Honored For Service To High School Athletes

DeWITT, Iowa – Genesis Health Group physician Steve Hanas, M.D., has been recognized by the Iowa Football Coaches Association for his contributions and dedication to high school athletics.

Dr. Hanas, who has been the team physician for Central High School in DeWitt for more than 25 years, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award.

Presenting the award to Dr. Hanas were University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and Central High School football coach Kurt Kreiter.  Dr. Hanas was nominated by Kreiter.

“Steve (Hanas) has seen his fair share of wins and losses over the years, but his main focus has been on the safety and health of the student-athletes who have played all of those years,’’ Kreiter said. “He has always been a person you can count on for Friday nights.

“With role models such as Dr. Hanas, many of your young people have gone on and become leaders and volunteers in their communities.  He also has overseen our school sports physicals.

“One of the qualities I have always appreciated is that Dr. Hanas takes what he does very professionally, but he also has a knack of understanding young people and the emotions of the game.

Dr. Hanas is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine and graduated from the Quad Cities Genesis Family Medicine Residency Program. His practice is located in DeWitt.
