Golfers Tee Off For Foundation Projects

There are no bad golf shots when every shot supports important Genesis projects.

Several hundred golfers will tee it up in the coming months to support scholarships for current and future health professionals at Genesis and to help fund the renovation of resident rooms at Westwing Place at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

First on the schedule of Genesis foundation golf outings is the Genesis Illini Foundation Pro-Am on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at TPC at Deere Run.  Each foursome is matched with an area professional. Cost is $250. For more information, call (309) 792-6395.

The DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation event will be played Saturday, Aug. 23 at Springbrook Country Club in DeWitt.  Cost is $100. For more information, call (563) 659-4222.

The Genesis Health Services Foundation Golf Challenge will be held Monday, Sept. 8 at Davenport Country Club and Short Hills Country Club.  New features of the event this year will be a golf fitness clinic conducted by Kelly Blackburn, who works with PGA Tour professionals, and a "shamble" format that allows players to play more of their own shots. One of the ways to support the Genesis Illini Foundation Pro-Am event is through the purchase of dimple drop tickets. 

As part of the Aug. 6 event, golf balls will again be dropped from a Medforce helicopter onto a practice green.  The ball that is closest to the hole wins $1,000 for the person with the corresponding number of the ball.  The ball that is farthest away wins $250 for the person with that number.

Dimple drop tickets are available at area Hy-Vee stores.  Cost is $5 per chance or 5 chances for $20.

These charity golf outings provide funds to support health-related programs and services throughout the region.
