"Twilight" Is Dawn Of Isabella As Most Popular Name Of Genesis Babies

Parents of baby girls born at Genesis BirthCenters in 2009 have been part of a national trend.

The influence of culture, particularly the "Twilight" books and movie series, didn't miss this region.

Isabella, which has made the top 10 lists at Genesis since 2006, moved up to No. 1 as the most popular name at Genesis BirthCenters at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport and Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus this year.  A total of 27 baby girls went home with that name.

Isabella "Bella" Swan is the lead female character in the "Twilight" series of books authored by Stephanie Meyer.  The name Isabella was tied for seventh on the Genesis list last year, was tied for sixth in 2007, and was sixth in 2006.

Following Isabella on the most popular list of girls names at Genesis in 2009 were Olivia (20 babies), which tied for seventh last year, and Addison (17 babies), which fell from the No. 1 spot in 2008 to No. 3.

Boys with the traditionally popular Biblical name of Noah will be walking into kindergarten classrooms two-by-two for the next several years. There were 20 Noahs born at Genesis BirthCenters this year.

Following Noah on the Genesis list of boys names were Ethan and Carter with 19.

Noah moved up from a tie for third in 2008, a tie for second in 2007 and a tie for fourth in 2006.

New parents at Genesis also followed another trend by naming their boy baby Jack. Jack appeared in the Genesis top 10 boys names (No. 9 with 14 babies) for the first time since the lists were first released in 2006 and the name made national top 10 lists this year.

Just missing the Genesis boys' top 10 was Jackson (12 babies). The name moved up on national lists in 2009 following the death of pop music legend Michael Jackson.

Among the unique names given to babies born at Genesis in 2009 were Aanique, Alodia, Lakendrionna, Pixie, Starlaysia, Shytiera, Tuyizere, Dumaree, Jhajai, Tiikevin, Zjaremya and Zainyn.

With several days left in the year, nearly 3,000 babies have already been born at Genesis BirthCenters in 2009.
