Genesis Nursing Scholarships Awarded

Four college nursing students have been awarded scholarships of $10,000 from the Genesis Health Services Foundation.

Earning the 2010 scholarships are Shannon Carbon, a student at St. Ambrose University; Kelsey LaFayette, who attended Pleasant Valley High School and now attends Luther College in Decorah, Iowa; Sarah Nelson, who attended Camanche High School and now attends St. Ambrose University, and, Andrea Hemphill, who attended Annawan High School in Illinois and now attends Illinois State University.

The Genesis Health Services Foundation provides scholarships for students who have been accepted, or are already enrolled in an undergraduate baccalaureate-nursing program in an Iowa or Illinois college or university.

The scholarships are offered as loans that are forgivable if the recipient works within Genesis Health System for two years on a full-time basis upon completion of their degree. The scholarships are available to students in the 10-county region of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois served by Genesis Health System.

The Foundation also awards health careers scholarships to Genesis employees. Those recipients will be announced later this spring.

Scholarships supported by gifts and by special events allow Genesis to build long-term relationships with highly trained and skilled health professionals who provide quality care to patients.

Carbon is already working at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport as a clinical assistant in the emergency departments. Sarah Nelson is a certified nursing assistant at Westwing Place, the Genesis senior care facility in DeWitt.
