Genesis Extends Health Benefits Of Employees' Children To Age 26
Genesis Health System announces that it will offer its employees the option to include uninsured adult children up to age 26 on Genesis-sponsored insurance plans.
The option is effective Saturday, May 1.
Under the terms of the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Genesis would not have been required to provide adult child coverage until January 2011. However, Genesis is voluntarily providing this benefit 8 months early.
In making the announcement, Genesis President and CEO Doug Cropper explained the early Genesis implementation: "The rising cost of private health insurance coverage for adult children creates a significant financial hardship for many of our employees. By voluntarily offering this coverage to our employees now -- in advance of the federal mandate -- we can help mitigate this financial burden. "
Adult children of Genesis employees younger than age 26 are not eligible for Genesis plan coverage if they are eligible for coverage under another employer-sponsored plan.
