Genesis Reinstates Standard Visitation Policies
Genesis Medical Center Campuses in Davenport, DeWitt and Silvis will reinstate standard visitation policies beginning Friday, Jan. 22.
The vaccination of a significant number of people in the region for H1N1 flu and seasonal influenza has helped make it possible for Genesis return to the standard visitation policy. While flu cases are still being confirmed, there has been a decrease in the number of cases.
In October, Genesis decided to restrict visitation to hospitalized patients by anyone younger than 18 years old to prevent the spread of influenza to patients, staff and other visitors.
Because flu season in the Midwest can continue through March or later, Genesis still asks that all visitors be in good health when they visit patients. If a staff member sees visitors coughing or sneezing, they may request the visitor to wear a mask, or request the visitor to leave the patient care area. Visitors should refrain from visiting if they have had flu-like symptoms during the past seven days.
Additionally, to help prevent the spread of illness, all visitors are asked to wash hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand foam/gel upon entering and exiting a patient's room.
Genesis Medical Center would like to thank the public for its patience and understanding regarding the visiting restrictions during this challenging flu season.
