GMC, DeWitt Donates $250,000 To STAR Campaign

Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, which has provided healthcare for the community for nearly 60 years, is giving back to preserve the community's health and wellness for decades to come.

Jeff Cooper, President of Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt announced today Genesis will make a $250,000 donation to the Saber Team for Arts and Recreation (STAR) campaign.

STAR is raising $4.6 million in private funding toward a total cost of approximately $27.3 million for a major renovation and expansion of facilities in the Central Community School District.

STAR has focused its efforts on raising private funds for a new 800-seat auditorium, a 1,600-seat competition gymnasium and an auxiliary gymnasium at the high school.

"This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and the people who have supported the hospital for so many years,'' Cooper said. "The goal of the STAR campaign also matches the Genesis role in the community to promote health and wellness.

"The Central Community School District and all residents in the area will benefit from the new gymnasiums and the auditorium.

"The community has shown it supports this ambitious effort to benefit DeWitt schools and we want to also show the support of Genesis."

Cooper said investment in DeWitt schools will make DeWitt more attractive for potential new residents and businesses considering the area.

Pat Henricksen, executive director of the Central Community Education Foundation, said, "Genesis has always been so generous in this community. They are a partner in the community's future, in addition to providing the health needs for DeWitt and surrounding communities.''
