Quad-City Times Bix 7 Goes Pink
Breast cancer survivors and supporters can celebrate survivorship at Saturday's Quad-City Times Bix 7.
Inclement weather forced the cancellation of this year's Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure®. In response, Race registrants were invited to sign up for Saturday's 2-mile "Quick Bix" or the 7-mile Bix race and wear their Race for the Cure T-shirts. The Bix post-race party will feature a special stage and gathering area to recreate the annual "Survivor Program."
In addition, the Quad-City Times Bix 7 will donate $10 to the Race for the Cure for each Bix entry over 15,000 people.
"We were disappointed for the Race for the Cure walkers and runners when their event was cancelled, and we are hoping this partnership will give survivors a chance to walk or run with their friends and family," Bix 7 Race director Ed Froehlich said.

Camaraderie is an important part of the Race for the Cure event, and co-directors Fred, Cathie, and Jay Whiteside are thankful for the opportunity for breast cancer survivors to celebrate together. "This is another chance for the community of breast cancer survivors to share their common journey. And, we hope that proceeds will be raised so that Komen can fund more mammograms for local women," said Cathie Whiteside. "We are so very appreciative of this generous and heart-warming effort."
