Theatre Group's Performance Will Benefit Genesis Dialysis Center

The Curtainbox Theatre Company will present a performance of Speed-the-Plow on Saturday, April 9 to benefit the Edwin A. Motto., M.D. Renal Dialysis Center at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.

The benefit performance will be the second Curtainbox Theatre Company has done with proceeds donated to Genesis Foundations. In 2010, the group donated proceeds to a performance of W;t to Genesis Foundations for hospice services.

The donation will assist the Genesis Dialysis Center in providing support for patients who have transportation needs to comply with their dialysis schedule.

"Many of our dialysis patients are unable to drive because of their advanced age, frail health and limited vision field. This benefit will allow us to assist our dialysis patients who face difficulties getting to their dialysis sessions because of the costs of transportation,'' said Anne Benjamin, a social worker with the Genesis Dialysis Center.

Kim Furness, a Davenport native who returned home five years ago, is the founder, producer and an actress with The Curtainbox Theatre Co.

Speed-the-Plow was written by David Mamet. It is a satirical look at the American movie business.

The Curtainbox Theatre Co. will present Speed-the-Plow on Sunday April 10 and Tuesday, April 12 through Saturday April 23 at The Village Theatre, 2113 East 11th St., Davenport. There will be a preview performance on Friday, April 8, followed by the Genesis benefit performance on April 9.

Tickets to the special performance, which will include a pre-curtain reception and a meet-and-greet with cast and crew, will be $20. For information about the Genesis benefit performance, go to www.thecurtainbox.com or call (563) 322-8504.
