Dr. Metcalf named VP of Medical Staff Affairs for Genesis, Illini Campus
Peter J. Metcalf, M.D., has assumed the part-time position of Vice President of
Medical Staff Affairs for Genesis Medical
Center, Illini Campus.
Dr. Metcalf, a pediatrician who
has been active on the Illini
Campus medical staff since
1994, was appointed by Flo
Spyrow, President of GMC-Illini
Campus. He began his duties
effective April 1.
Working part-time as the
physician executive leader will
allow him to continue his
pediatric practice at Genesis
Health Group’s Silvis Pediatric
Clinic, where he has been
seeing patients since 2004.
In his executive position, which is new for
the Illini Campus, Dr. Metcalf will serve as
liaison between the GMC-Illini medical
staff and the administrative team. GMCIllini
has nearly 300 active, provisional and
courtesy doctors.
One of Dr. Metcalf's goals will be to
establish a hospital environment that
welcomes, engages and respects
physicians and their
contributions to patient
care delivery.

position,” said Spyrow in
making the announcement.
“He is well known not only
for his commitment to
quality health care, but also
for his tireless work to make
sure all children, regardless
of background or parents’ ability to pay,
receive the medical care they need.
“His years of experience as a trusted
medical staff leader and dedication to
patients will serve Illini Campus well as we
grow and offer more services to the
area.”
Dr. Metcalf received his medical
education at the University of Bristol,
England; completed his residency training
in Pediatrics in Edmonton, Alberta,
Canada; and, is board certified in both
Canada and the U.S.
He practiced in Southern Alberta for
17 years, where he established and ran a
Level 2+ Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
similar to the one at Genesis Medical
Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport.
He also served on the Alberta Perinatal
Program Advisory Committee and was a
member of the Board of the Alberta
Medical Association.
Before leaving Alberta, he was part of a
Canadian Government program designed
to assist the Ukraine in modernizing its
pediatric care in the immediate period
after the collapse of the Soviet Union and
spent some time in Kiev. He practiced for
two years in British Columbia in a
consulting capacity before relocating here
in 1994.
Dr. Metcalf has been a member of the
Medical Executive Committee at Illini
since 1995 and has served on several
hospital and health system committees.
He was a member of the Genesis team
that travelled to New Orleans after
Hurricane Katrina.
He is the Medical Director of the School
Health Link Clinics in the Illinois Quad
Cities, and served on the Rock Island
County Health Board for a number of
years. He was Medical Director of the
Signature Physician Group, one of the
three physician groups that merged to
become Genesis Health Group, and
served on the GHG Joint Operating
Board for six years.
He has just completed four years as
President of the Medical Staff at Illini
Campus. He is currently Medical Section
Chief at Illini and is involved with the
ARNP program of the University of Illinois.
Dr. Metcalf and Karen, his wife of more
than 40 years, live in Bettendorf. They
have two children -- a daughter who lives
in London, England, and a son who lives
locally.
