Heart Surgeon Cornelius Davis III Joins Genesis Heart Surgery Team
Dr. Cornelius A. Davis III, M.D., a cardiothoracic surgeon, has joined the Genesis heart team.
Coming to the Quad Cities from the world renowned Texas Medical Center in Houston, Dr. Davis was owner of Wellspring Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital-TMH, as well as Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services at St. Anthony's Hospital.
Dr. Davis has a track record of expertise in both cutting-edge minimally invasive and endovascular techniques, as well as traditional open procedures.
He has innovated novel procedures which are now used across the country. He also received national media attention when he corrected a traumatic pulmonary aneurysm in the lung of Emmy Award-winning Tejano and Country music star Emilio (Emilio Navaira III).
Dr. Davis said he has several reasons for selling his Houston practice and moving to the Midwest.
"One reason is to be closer to family" said Dr. Davis. "I also wanted to be in a place that's in a position to expand a center of excellence in heart care. My partner here at Genesis, Dr. Nicholas Augelli, has already created an atmosphere of high quality care, and the Genesis Health System is committed to building a strong team. You can't have a program that will deliver consistent high quality healthcare unless everyone buys into it."
Dr. Davis has a special interest in robotic heart, lung and mediastinal procedures and all minimally invasive cardiothoracic procedures.
He received undergraduate degrees in chemistry and political science from the University of North Carolina, and is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his residencies in general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery at Duke University, Boston University, Albert Einstein University, and University of Texas-Houston, respectively. Dr. Davis comes to the Quad Cities with his wife, four children and three dogs.
The Genesis heart surgery program has earned national recognition as a top 50 U.S. program and two Summit Awards for patient satisfaction.
